PMPartners Project Management & Business Analysis Forum:

Due to the overwhelming response we received to our Business Analysis seminar back in May we have decided to hold a Project Management & Business Analysis Forum at our Sydney Training Centre planned for late September/early October this year.

For $250.00 +GST you will have the opportunity to attend as many of our informative education sessions as you like covering such Project Management and Business Analysis topics as Professional Development Qualification/Certification Options, Business Analysis into the future, Complex Project Management, Programme Management and setting up a Project Management Office.

The topics will be presented by experienced PMPartners consultants and there will also be discussion panels and subject matter experts available during and after each session to answer any questions or arrange meetings with clients to discuss their PM and BA requirements or ideas.

The varied range of topics will appeal to all levels of knowledge and experience including newcomers to the Project Management field, Learning & Development Managers, Human Resource Managers, as well as experienced Project Managers who may be looking at gaining additional certifications, heading in a new pm direction or looking at setting up a PMO on their company's premises.

We are offering an "earlybird" registration discount of 15%, but numbers are limited. If you are interested in finding out more about the Project Management & Business Analysis Forum or booking your place, please email lisab@pmpartners.com.au or phone 02 9267 2267.

This allows them to provide candidates with access to many interesting and challenging full time or contract opportunities. Just as they are committed to providing their clients with the best candidates for their roles, they too are committed to ensuring they have the right opportunities for their candidates.

Please find below an actual Case Study where PMPeople helped solve one client's recruitment problem:

PMPeople Case Study: Project Management Staff "know your market" Strategy

As we all know, the market belongs to candidates these days. The need for qualified, skilled and experienced Project staff is essential. There is a huge shortage of candidates and surveys show that 34% of hiring managers rate project staff as the most in demand and the most difficult roles to fill.

Australia is a market in which networking and personal contacts are still very important in the identification of candidates. Publicly available information is less easily available in Australia than in some other markets, and we rely a lot on the reputations of candidates.

One of our reputable clients, a growing Professional Services company, was suffering from declining margins and increasing competition in many of its markets as they were regarded as a benchmark of excellence in project delivery practice, but did not have the skills necessary for the launch of the new businesses.

Part of the solution was to recruit senior Project Managers for several states to manage the larger strategic projects and by that, produce significant revenues and profits very rapidly. After considering submissions from several search companies they granted the assignment to PMPeople.

PMPeople has helped this client by:

  • Managing instantaneous recruitment at senior PM levels
  • Conducting global research to identify candidates
  • Reviewing target candidates with the client
  • Helping to recruit a team of senior PMs with deep experience of our client's target markets.

PMPeople helped this client find world class experience combined with local understanding by recruiting 5 senior PMs, and has since become their client's preferred supplier for PM staff.

If you are having problems recruiting good PM or BA staff give Goldy Albu at PMPeople a call on 0437 529 109 or visit the website www.pmpeople.com.au

BA Education Solutions:

PMPartners have added three new workshops to their Business Analysis education offering. Apart from our current 5 day Business Analysis: Effective Requirements for Successful Projects workshop which is aligned and endorsed by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA™), we have added three new workshops including a 2 day Business Analysis: Tools & Techniques, a 2 day Preparation Workshop for CBAP™ Certification and a 1 day Business Analysis: Writing an Effective Business Case workshop.

Business Analysis: Effective Requirements for Successful Projects

This is the only five day Business Analysis course addressing the entire IIBA™ Requirements Model endorsed by the IIBA™ in Australia. This interactive and practical workshop will take participants through the whole BA process from addressing a business problem to the presentation of the requirements. The workshop provides techniques in comprehensive analysis, business requirements development and the drafting of requirements that contribute to the presentation of a persuasive Business Case. Techniques are also provided for negotiation among different personality types and different stakeholder interests.

Business Analysis: IIBA™ Preparation Workshop for CBAP™ Certification

This 2 day workshop provides the certification preparation required in order to obtain the globally recognised CBAP™ from the IIBA™. Our intention is not to teach participants how to perform business analysis tasks or produce BA deliverables, but to guide them through the certification process and prepare them for the CBAP™ exam.

Business Analysis: Tools & Techniques

This 2 day programme will provide participants with a working knowledge of the fundamental Business Analysis tools and techniques, within the context of an interactive course driven by a case study. This course has been specifically endorsed by the IIBA™.

Business Analysis: Writing an Effective Business Case

This one day programme will provide participants with a working knowledge of the principles of writing an effective, comprehensive and compelling Business Case, within the context of an interactive course driven by a case study. This course has been specifically endorsed by the IIBA™.

Telstra Education Case Study

Telstra Customer Project Managers have recently wrapped up some Project Management Fundamentals Training with PMPartners facilitator Ilia Vasiliev. The purpose of this training was to provide a further level of professional development that can be used to improve and reinforce key project management behaviour as well as provide participants with the essential knowledge and skills to either manage a project or be an effective, valuable member of the project team.

Education sales team member Chris D'Silva said he found the PMPartners workshop informative, useful and very relevant to his day-to-day work in the Westpac Customer Management Team. "What I've learned I can easily put into practice as soon as I return to the office, and no doubt begin to see the benefits in a short period of time. As a result of attending the course I've realised it is essential for PMs and project team members to have a firm understanding of project management methodologies, which this course provides. I highly recommend this course to anyone relatively new to a project environment," CSD Project Support Zeldine Fernandes said the training had given her a clear reference point for the project she is currently involved in. "Together with the Telstra methodology, on the job training and mentoring from senior project managers, I aim to be a more effective team player. I will put into practice the new strategies I have learned to ensure better management of future projects and a better customer experience," said Zeldine.

Richard Dodds, Manager NSW Customer Project Management said, "The key requirement from the course was to ensure that the project support and project co-ordinator's within the CPM team were equipped with tools that enable them to deliver projects in a professional and consistent manner. A requirement that was most definitely met."

If you would like to replicate Telstra's training success, give us a call on 02 9267 2267 and we will tailor a training solution to best fit your requirements.

"Putting People Management Back into Project Management"
Written By Lisa Walker
Senior Project Manager for PMPartners Pty Ltd

No one will ever be able to convince me that the most challenging component of Project Management is the science behind it. The way in which we need to pull people together to be a high performance team over a relatively short period of time is the most challenging part of Project Management.

This article will focus on the communication issues within the project team, in particular, the people management aspect. Given the natural pressure of projects - tight time frames, cost management and close monitoring, the need for Project Managers to be good people managers is heightened.

Lisa Walker - Rally Queen

Back in the news again, our Senior Project Manager, Lisa Walker competed in the Targa Tasmania rally event earlier in the year. This was Lisa's first time as a navigator and her partner, Andy's, second Targa event. Both Andy and Lisa were happy with their stage times and were quicker in some stages than Andy had been last year.

A lot of people assume as a navigator in a rally car you have map however, going at speeds over 200km/hr on the straights Lisa used detailed pace notes. There was one occasion where they slid off the road due to a combination of cold tyres and gravel. Luckily the car didn't sustain any damage but they got bogged and had to wait for the recovery vehicle to get them going again.

Well done Lisa and Andy on what looks like an exciting (and star studded) event and bring on Targa Tasmania 2008!
